Selecting the right bedding is important because it directly impacts your comfort and sleep quality. Good bedding should feel soft on your skin and create a cosy atmosphere in your bedroom. This helps you relax better and ensures a more restful night's sleep. By choosing bedding that suits your preferences and feels comfortable, you're enhancing your overall well-being and creating a peaceful environment to unwind after a long day. This simple choice can significantly improve your quality of sleep and overall quality of life. For further considerations, see our full bedding guide.
When considering which bedding material is best, cotton emerges as a clear favourite across experts and guides. Cotton sheets are celebrated for their natural breathability, making them ideal for maintaining comfort in various climates. They offer a soft and cool feel against the skin, which promotes a restful sleep experience. Additionally, cotton is durable and easy to maintain, ensuring longevity and continued comfort over time. Its popularity stems from these qualities, making it a reliable choice for anyone seeking quality bedding that prioritises comfort and breathability.
When it comes to choosing the best thread count for bedding, the consensus among experts is clear: aim for a range that balances softness, breathability and durability. Most recommend opting for sheets with a thread count between 300 and 600. Within this range, you'll find sheets that are comfortable against your skin, maintain their quality over time and provide a luxurious feel without being overly heavy. This sweet spot ensures that you get the best value for your money, enjoying bedding that is both cosy and long lasting.
You should wash your bedding, like sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers, at least once every two weeks if you shower before bed or wear pyjamas. This helps keep everything clean and fresh. If you have allergies, sleep naked or have infections, it's better to wash your bedding more often to prevent allergens or germs from building up. For step-by-step advice, take a look at our article on how often to wash and change your duvet cover.
